  3. Well, Wolfgang.

A good advertisement for a European funded project. And very good that you promoted our concept „Wissenschaftsdebatte“.

The ambitions from the project proposal are correctily described and I believe that the project participants honestly think that they will roll out new paths.

But I saw such claims too often during the past 10 years that I have the feeling the project will be just another „inventing-the-wheel-anew“ activity. There have been lots of similar EU funded projects, although some with slightly different angles. But none of them really made it through to a larger public, to my knowledge.

I wonder if all those past and running European science-society-engagement-RRI-projects really changed something and made sustainable differences in our conversations about science, society, industry, and politics. It should be time for an assessment of all those „best practices“, „recommendations“ and „tool boxes“ funded by the Commission. On the Horizon2020 pages I did not find such an assessment (correct me if I am wrong).

However, in the framwork of this very science debate (Wissenschaftsdebatte) we should take the journalistic distance to single projects unless it turns out that they, or one of them really have an impact on society.

But this could be a critical, investigative task for science journalists. As a starting point, here are a few of those similar projects, some are finalised, some are still running:
