The TELI Science Debate will be presented to a worldwide audience of experts. In the beginning of May 2014, almost a thousand science communicators will gather in Salvador, Brazil for their traditional biennial conference.
PCST 2014, Public Communication of Science & Technology, scheduled for May 5 through May 8 at Brazil’s Atlantic coast, stands under the central theme: Science Communication for Social Inclusion & Political Engagement.
This is the perfect realm for the TELI Science Debate. It will be presented under the title: HOW SCIENCE DEBATES BUILD NEW DIALOGUES BETWEEN RESEARCH AND SOCIETY (Wednesday, May 7, 10.45-12.00).
TELI Secretary Alex Gerber, meanwhile professor for science communication at Rhine Waal University, will lay out history, philosophy, rules and will try to trigger a real debate among participants about typical Brazilian scientific, technological and societal issues such as:
How to fight animal extinction in Amazonia or Rio’s famous cable cars and whether they can abate poverty in the favelas.
